Welcome to Pragmatic Environmentalism
I decided to start this blog in order to keep track of all the interesting environmental topics I read about (and too soon forget) and to discuss steps that I take to reduce my environmental impact. And maybe along the way this manufactured peer pressure will encourage me to go beyond what I would usually do.
I’m a 29-year-old woman living in Cambridge, MA and working in Boston. Living in an urban area, and in a town with forward-thinking environmental laws, I know my tactics won’t work for everyone. But at the very least this can start a conversation and we can all learn something.
While I recognize that the biggest places we can have an impact are transportation, heating/cooling, and animal product consumption, they may not be the subject of the majority of my posts. (Because, seriously, how many different ways can you say “Walk to work,” “Insulate your home,” and “Go vegan”?) If I focus on the trivial sometimes, like vermicomposting, it’s because that’s what I’m thinking about at the moment—and because it’s fun!
