Saturday Green Links – 9/18
I read the top two articles on the same day, and they really brought into focus the fact that overuse of antibiotics is not only an animal welfare issue, but a human health issue, too. Check it out.
- U.S. Meat Farmers Brace for Limits on Antibiotics – New York Times. Maybe they’ll stop crowding animals together so badly if they can’t use as many antibiotics.
- ‘Superbug’ patient treated at MGH – Boston Globe. And now we see exactly why we need to use fewer antibiotics on animals.
- Homeownership in Decline: The End of an Era? – Energy Circle. While I like the size, flexibility, and ease of renting an apartment, it’s much easier to improve a home’s energy efficiency if you own it. I’m still not sure…
- How Much is Enough? On Average, About $75,000 Per Year – Get Rich Slowly. A Princeton study says that happiness rises with income up until $75,000. After that, it levels off.
- The Annual Running Of The Freshmen – Boston Biker. This is hilarious, but it gives some good advice, too.
- How to Make Money Selling Books on Amazon – The Greenest Dollar. I don’t buy many actual books since the Kindle, but I’ve always loved selling books on Amazon Marketplace. It’s really easy.
- Snow plow contractors balk at upgrading gear – Boston Globe. The new gear will decrease the amount of salt used, but cost around $20,000 per truck.
- A Year without New Clothes? – Sound Money Matters. I think I’d need to lose some weight before I could do something like this. I have a hard enough time getting dressed in the morning as it is…
- Whole Foods launches sustainability-rating program – Eatocracy. More informative labeling is always good news. Thanks, Jen!
In other news, my Weatherization Barnraising, Part 2 post was cross-posted at the Cambridge Energy Alliance blog. As always, if you read anything interesting this week, send it along.
