Saturday Green Links – 10/1
The Boston Local Food Festival‘s happening right now next to the Children’s Museum at Fort Point Channel. It’s going on ’til 5:00, so you still have time to make it. Okay, on to the links.
- In Japan, the Summer of Setsuden – New York Times. So if threatened by blackouts, Americans would save energy, too?
- Robots Extract Coolant From Old Refrigerators – New York Times. I worried that the transportation of these refrigerators outweighed the benefits of recycling them, but “the refrigerator has an equivalent of approximately five tons of carbon dioxide . . . for comparison, that is like driving over 10,000 miles in an average car.”
- The Not-So-Green Mountains – New York Times. I get this guy’s position, but it’s such NIMBYism. Mountains are being leveled for coal mining every day, but roads are too much for your mountain.
- MBTA to test Chrysler’s hybrid pickups – Boston Globe. Not just hybrid pickups, but plug-in hybrid pickups. Cool.
I haven’t had much time for reading this week, so that’s all I’ve got for you. But that just means you can run right out to the Boston Local Food Festival—go, now!

Medford’s having a Harvest Your Energy
