“The Cloud” eats up so much electricity; it’s good that places like Facebook are starting to realize it’s in their best interest to use less.
- Facebook scores LEED gold for Oregon data center – Gigaom. It opened this spring and uses 52% less energy than a normal data center…
- Lean, Green Data Machines – Sierra. …which is good, because data centers use about 2 percent of America’s electricity.
- Is Telecommuting a Good Idea? – Slate. An experiment in Shanghai showed workers were 15% more productive, had less work exhaustion and a more positive attitude towards their jobs, and were nearly 50% less likely to say they were planning to quit at the end of eight months.
- More Energy Myths – Green Building Advisor. I love Michael Blasnik. His practical, no-nonsense approach to energy efficiency is refreshing.
- How to Recycle Anything – Real Simple. A great list of where to recycle hundreds of things. For more, check out Earth 911.
- Re-election Strategy Is Tied to a Shift on Smog – New York Times. Obama is delaying many environmental decisions until after the election.
- Curing Maine’s Addiction to Heating Oil – Renewable Energy World. Ouch: Maine is the 4th most petroleum-dependent state, and 78% of every dollar spent on heating oil leaves the Maine economy.
- Buy Nothing Day – Advbusters. Once again, Adbusters is encouraging people not to go shopping on Black Friday.
