Friday Green Links – 5/14
Okay, so they’re more Saturday Green Links this week. (I’m sure you were all holding your breath….)
- As Oil Threat Creeps Closer, A Rush on Seafood – New York Times. It seems like the only time people actually care about the environment is if it actually affects some part of their own lives. Weird.
- Why Norway’s Offshore Drilling Is Safer – Salon. Offshore drilling sucks, but Norway’s state-owned system is safer than our privately owned one.
- Strawberries Are About to Get More Toxic – The Thin Green Line. Methyl iodide, a gas used to create cancer in lab rats, has been proposed for use on strawberries in California.
- Around the Urban Homestead – Viggies Veggies. Viggie gets a pressure canner. I’ve thought about it myself, to get a handle on all the excess veggies from our CSA, but I think until we have our own garden one day, I’ll stick with freezing. (But I’m still interested in her process.)
- Sounding Out the Bell for Bicycling – Eco Yogini. So many people are taking up biking this spring! I really love reading about other people’s efforts. It’s so encouraging!
That’s all. As always, if you find something interesting, send it my way.

Freezing is easier, but my fridge is 31 years old so understandably not in it’s prime. I’m really having fun with canning though and I like not having to depend on electricity for storage 🙂
